Simultaneous Interpretation

Simultaneous Interpretation Beyond offers professional simultaneous interpretation services, enabling speakers to communicate fluently in their native language without interruptions. This specialized skill is essential for maintaining the utmost quality and professionalism across various events such as conferences, sales meetings, diplomatic meetings, technical negotiations and legal settings, to name a few. To uphold the intense focus necessary for this challenging work, Beyond’s adept interpreters collaborate in pairs or larger teams. Simultaneous interpretation is often the preferred method for various events due to its discreet nature, allowing the original speaker’s message to be translated into multiple spoken or sign languages instantly, without delay.

Remote Simultaneous Interpretation (RSI)

RSI is an ideal solution for fully virtual online meetings or hybrid events, webinars being held in one or more languages. All the participants are connected to the videoconferencing platform from their individual locations. Interpreters may be connected from a remote interpreting hub or a home studio. A technician is physically present in the hub, however there is no on-site technical support available in home studios, where interpreters connect using their own equipment.

Consecutive Interpretation

In this form of interpretation, speakers present their remarks in full segments, pausing afterward to give the interpreter time to render their speech into the target language.

The interpreter attentively listens and takes notes, then conveys the translated message during the speaker’s pauses. In consecutive interpretation settings, the interpreter often sits alongside the speaker, and the only necessary equipment is microphones and a conventional public address system, particularly for larger venues or audiences.

Whispered Interpretation

Whispered interpretation is a specialized form of simultaneous interpretation where the interpreter whispers the interpretation directly to one or two attendees. This technique is selectively applied, as the interpreter’s hushed voice should not interrupt the meeting, and proximity to the speaker is necessary for clear hearing. It requires no special equipment, though for extended sessions, interpreters may alternate to sustain performance. Whispered interpretation isn’t recommended for large groups or scenarios where multiple individuals need interpretation. In such instances, an ‘infoport’ / ‘bidule’ system or an ISO-compliant interpreting booth is advised.

Infoport (Bidule or Tour-guide) System

This system is a good solution for on-the-move events. The system consists only of a radio transmitter and headsets. It’s also suitable for situations where the number of delegates exceeds the capacity for whispered interpretation. While it has certain drawbacks—such as the absence of a soundproof booth and a limited number of receivers and channels—it’s undeniable that the infoport system serves as an efficient alternative for brief meetings with few participants or events that require mobility.

Sign Language Interpretation

Providing sign language interpretation at your event ensures accessibility for participants who communicate through sign language. The positioning of sign language interpreters, whether standing or seated, is important because they need to have a clear auditory and visual access to both speakers and participants. Sign language interpreters do not work from a booth, yet they need an audio connection, which can be facilitated through devices like an audio monitor or a wireless receiver with a headset.

Interpretation Project Management

Prior to your event, your consultant interpreter will:

  • - Assist in finalizing your specific needs.

  • - Assemble a team of interpreters.

  • - Provide an initial quote and make adjustments when necessary.

  • - Coordinate the provision of necessary interpreting equipment, if required.

  • - Securely gather and distribute all pertinent documents to the interpreters, ensuring confidentiality is maintained throughout the process.

Corporate Language Services

We provide one-on-one language seminars for senior professionals and executives, as well as translation services for high-level corporate identity documents, including websites, annual reports, and social media accounts.

Interpretation Equipment

We offer guidance on interpretation equipment and also procure it for you. (ISO-compliant booths, Infoport/Tour-guide system, technician etc.)

Simultaneous Interpretation Between Languages With Inverse Structure

Simultaneous interpretation between a head-final language (such as Turkish, Japanese, or Korean) and a head-initial one (such as most European languages) poses a number of specific syntactic challenges. Professional interpreters use several strategies while working between structurally inverse languages. These were analyzed in the following dissertation written for the Master of Advanced Studies in Interpreter Training at the University of Geneva École de Traduction et d’Interprétation: ‘Simultaneous Interpretation Between Languages with Inverse Structure,’ by Selim Earls, Figen Doğan, and Bilge Has
